Whether together as a band or individually as solo artists, the four heads of the Beatles have always surprised their fans and continuously set new pop cultural standards. And now, in 2023, comes one of the most exciting releases in their long and endlessly eventful history. “Now And Then” is the final Beatles song – written and sung by John Lennon, engineered and arranged by Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, and now finally completed by Paul and Ringo over four decades later.
Also, on November 10, 2023, the Beatles collections 1962-1966 (“The Red Album”) and 1967-1970 (“The Blue Album”) will be released in a new 2023 Edition via Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe. Since their initial release 50 years ago, these compilations have introduced several generations to the music of The Beatles. in 2023, the tracklists of both collections have been expanded and all songs have been mixed in true stereo and Dolby Atmos®. The albums are released as 3LP, 2CD and combined as 6LP and 4CD. The tracklist of the “Blue Album” was also extended by “Now And Then” among others.
The double A-side single pairs the last Beatles song with the first: the band’s 1962 British debut single, “Love Me Do,” a truly fitting counterpart to “Now And Then.” Both songs are mixed in stereo and Dolby Atmos®, and the release includes an original cover by artist Ed Ruscha.
Paul McCartney: “There it was: John’s voice. Absolutely clear. It was a really emotional moment. And we all played on it, it’s a real Beatles recording. To still be working on Beatles music in 2023 and to release a new song that the public hasn’t heard yet, I think is an exciting thing.”
Ringo Starr: “We’ll never get that close to him again, so it was very emotional for all of us. It was like John was back. It was really crazy.” The 12-minute documentary “Now And Then – The Last Beatles Song,” written and directed by Oliver Murray, premieres on the evening of November 01, 2023. This poignant short film tells the story behind the last Beatles song, with exclusive footage and commentary from Paul, Ringo, George, Sean Ono Lennon and Peter Jackson.
