For the 20th birthday of the “Lord of the Rings” classic
Exactly 20 years ago, in 2001, Enya’s famous song “May It Be” was released, written for the film “Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship.” It was used in the film’s end credits.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the film and song, “May It Be,” which Enya recorded at the request of director Peter Jackson, will be released as a 12″ picture disc in December 2021.
Enya co-wrote “May It Be” with her longtime producer Nicky Ryan and her lyric partner, writer and lyricist Roma Ryan. The song was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 2002, both in the Best Film Song category. In Germany, “May It Be” reached number one in the charts.
Back in 2002, the song was released as a CD single along with two Enya songs, “Isobella” and “The First Of Autumn, an instrumental, “. They were recorded during the recording of Enya’s fifth studio album “A Day Without Rain” (2000). “Isobella” was previously only released on the Japan Edition of the album. These two tracks now appeared on vinyl for the first time with the picture disc.
