George Michael’s cult album “Older” was first released on Virgin Records on May 13, 1996 and brought the superstar unprecedented success in the charts. For three weeks the LP stayed at number one in the UK and spent a total of 35 weeks in the top ten. Six singles were released from Older, of which “Fastlove” and the eternal classic “Jesus To A Child” also reached the top. The other four singles climbed into the Top 3.
The album was also immensely successful commercially worldwide. It reached platinum status in 22 countries and went platinum six times in the UK alone. A success story that no other artist has been able to repeat to this day.
Older was George Michael’s third album as a solo artist. Here he experimented with new musical styles and expanded his artistic horizons. Critics celebrated the album, with which the singer processed a particularly upsetting phase of his life, as a triumphant success
