The Alan Parsons Project was a progressive rock band consisting of Alan Parsons and songwriter, musician and manager Eric Woolfson. They released 10 concept albums that explored themes of science fiction, the supernatural, literature and sociology, selling more than 55 million albums worldwide between 1976 and 1987.
Their emphasis was on very high quality studio sound production and they recorded most of their works at Abbey Road Studios in London. They used a variety of different singers and musicians on each album, but also employed some relatively constant session musicians such as guitarist Ian Bairnson, arranger Andrew Powell, bassist and vocalist David Paton, drummer Stuart Elliott, and singers Lenny Zakatek and Chris Rainbow.
They chose who they thought would be best for each song, rather than shaping the material for a particular artist.
